The Marquis: Danse Macabre
Published in Paperback by Oni Press (28 September, 2001)
Author: Guy Davis
Average review score:

Impressively Exelent
Guy Davis achieves in The Marquis what a team of talented writers and artists seldom manage to acomplish: AN EXTREEMLY WELL WRITTEN TALE THAT IS ENTERTAINING START TO FINISH. The story is amazing, the art is amazing, and most of all, Guy Davis is amazing for having done it all himself!

The Marquis is a must have for any fan of graphic novels.

One of The Best!
The Marquis is an amazing book. It is almost hard to believe one guy wrote and illustrated this. The dialogue is smart and the illustrations are very dark, detailed and deep. The town the story takes place is fictional based on 17th century France, but there are some historical basis used. It was a great idea to hide all the sinners underneath masks. And The Marquis is definitely not your normal everyday hero. The plot twist at the end makes the story worthwhile to slowly read through and not just try to make it to the finish as quick as possible. This is the first in a three book set. I can't wait for the others to come out.

MARVIN GAYE: I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
Published in Paperback by Trafalgar Square (September, 2000)
Authors: Sharon David and Sharon Davis
Average review score:

Another Powerful Read on Marvin Gaye
Marvin Gaye not only was a musical Genius but the Cat was just very down to earth.reading on Him has always been interesting to me because the Guy was very Complex&so many things went down. His Battle with Motown over His Artistic Direction,Berry Gordy,Marvin&His Wives,His Mother&His Father.so many things involved.this Book takes on all of that&was very well Written.

Healing
This book tells the story of Gaye, his relationship with his family, Motown, Berry Gordy, his wives (one of which was Gordy's sister, Anna) and with his fans.

Unlike other bios of Motown stars (Knight, Reeves)this one is packed with info and personal details about the singer. Marvin is very candid as well as other members of his family about his relationship with his father. It also seems that Marvin is bashing Berry Gordy...the man who gave him a chance at stardom. It also seems that Marvin (along with other Motown stars)is jealous of the attention paid to Diana Ross. Marvin looked up to Berry and was hurt when he could not receive approval of his father figure.

The relationship he had with his wives Anna Gordy and Janis Hunter is also discussed-- although very briefly especially in terms of Hunter. I would've liked to know more about the teen girl Marvin called his inspiration. It is clear that Marvin's long battle with COCAINE, keeps from maintaining healthy relationships with any one.

The end of 'GRAPEVINE' talks about the tragic death of Marvin. I was very satisfied with Davis's work on this subject.

This book gave a great sense of comfort and allowed me to ......... Heal.
Thanks Davis, I am looking forward to your new book on Diana Ross.

WONDERFUL REFERENCE FOR STUDENTS!
This little book has been a most valuable addition to my library. Wouldn't leave home or office without it!

Great book to have handy
I am a student studying to be a medical assistant and this book is wonderful. It is small enough you can carry it to every class with you and will be helpful when you join the workforce. It has alot of information like abbreviations, acronyms for healthcare organizations and much, much more.

I like the price as well. Medical books are usually very [costly] but this is exactly what I was looking for at a great price.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone.

Miles Davis and American Culture
Published in Hardcover by Missouri Historical Society Pr (May, 2001)
Author: Gerald Early
Average review score:

Very Compelling Book
Miles Davis was more than a Great Musician He was a Man with a Mind&He had alot to say.this Book reflects on that&more.very detail on many subjects.any book usual on Miles is a must read because not only for His Music but His take on the World Around Him.

A "must" for students of jazz history
Miles Davis was far more than just another jazz musician. He was a primary reference for the jazz culture of performers and audiences of his day and a man whose influence on the jazz community continues down to the present time. In Miles Davis And American Culture, Gerald Early has assembled an impressive collection of essays on the world, work, and life of Miles Davis. From Early's opening essay "The Art of the Muscle: Miles Davis as American Knight and American Knave" to Benjamin Cawthra's "Remembering Miles in St. Louise: A Conclusion", Miles Davis And American Culture is a compendium of cogent, illuminating, and occasionally challenging descriptions, analyses, and commentaries on a great icon of American jazz -- and a "must" for students of jazz history, as well as Miles Davis' legions of fans.

Miles Davis: Kind of Blue
Published in Paperback by Hal Leonard (April, 2000)
Authors: Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Jimmy Cobb
Average review score:

Not Kind of Good, Really Good
This book is really great. It's in-depth, and even has the heads for all the songs for all the parts. Because all the parts for the songs are there (drums, trumpet, saxes, piano, and bass) we were able to perform some of the songs, even using some of the solos from them. Great book! Also includes some background info from the songs too.

miles davis- kind of blue
this is a great book for the advanced jazz student to learn about the best selling jazz albumn of all time.

understand the melodies and thier relationship to the chords from this monumental recording.

learn about miles, coltranes and the gangs improvisational techniques...

Milestones 1 and 2: Milestones 1, the Music and Times of Miles Davis to 1960/Milestones 2, the Music and Times of Miles Davis Since 1960
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (September, 1985)
Author: Jack Chambers
Average review score:

Let's hope this title is updated soon!
This exceptional book on Miles is THE one to read if you want to know about the man and his music. All jazz biographies should be like that. I'm surprised to see it out-of-stock. Hopefully, it's because Mr Chambers is working on an updated version.

This book is indispensible to any Miles Davis fan.
For anyone who enjoys the work of Miles Davis, this book is an indispensible resource. Chambers' track-by-track analysis of each session invariable has me digging out all of my Miles Davis CDs. I am astounded that this book is out of print; I would think that it would have been popular among Miles Davis fans for years to come (and I was hoping that a later edition would cover the last five years of Miles' life). My copy of this book is dog-eared and losing pages; I would certainly buy another copy if it were available.

My Final Wishes

Author: Bradley H. Davis
Average review score:

invaluable information
This book not only contains information that the average layman wouldn't know but it actually made arrangements for my and my husbands final disposition. It actually took us through our funeral arrangements and we knew what the cost was going to be before we chose our funeral home of choice. This book explains what all the costs are and how to save a lot of money. It also covers costs involved for cremation and several other options. It even has forms that cover all of the information needed by the funeral director. If you don't want to leave a heavy burdon on your loved ones shoulders I highly recommend this book, this book may also be used for a loved one and not just for yourself. It has forms to record everything.

The Greatest book out there for the future be prepared!
This book is one of the most informative books ever on the topic of how to prepare for a loved one's funeral.I recently lost my sister and didn't know the first thing about burials. This book helps all those out there who like me didn't until that tragic event happens to you.
It also give's you help on cost and very good info on alot of things. Like God forbid I lost my husband! I didn''t know that the V.A would give us a complete burial for both of us at NO COST. Now where else would you find this out at.People at funeral home don't ever offer this advise.
I think anyone and everyone should be prepared for what we all know is going to happen sooner or later. I suggest everyone out there get this book ASAP. It's a must read full of great and helpfull idea's for one to put to use.It will help those like me
that don't have alot of money. This book helps you get through it all.
The author really did his homework on this book.
Go get this book before it's to late! God bless all and hopefully you'll be prepared not like me I wasn't.
Thanks for reading my review.
Kathy
